Hugh(e) Variance

Im not entirely sure that that post title works but lets stick with it for the time being. Heres a question for my thousands of avid readers. If you read the following write up would you get involved?: There’s not much that I’d get excited about today, but RAASHDY might have a bit better chance than his odds suggest in the second division of the 1m2f handicap at Chelmsford this evening (8.45) and he’s the each-way suggestion for small stakes. It’s not hard to find the negatives to his chance, as you’d expect of one at his price, as his recent form has mirrored that of his stable, which hasn’t had a […]

A little OTT?

I’ve mentioned in the last couple of blog posts about the importance of following services that are totally transparent when it comes to the publication of results and I also mentioned that even if they do then the recording of this can be somewhat flawed and slightly OTT. A case in point here is the excellent Hugh Taylor service which is published daily on the At The Races website. Let me make it clear at this point that there is absolutely no criticism implied of the service here . Its free and has provided me with 4 years  worth of winners so it would be rather fickle of me to […]

Time flies

Wow. Time flies when you’ve got screaming kids! Its been over 6 months since the last blog piece and while bloggers normally stop posting because they either have nothing interesting left to say (that never ever stopped me) or its no fun posting about losing, the simple fact is that with three kids under three, time is so limited that every waking moment seems to be taken up. Betting wise its been actually ok. With the emphasis very much on the “ok” though. Golf wise, Jeremy Chapman in the RFO is level for the year although he would have been nicely ahead as he had tipped Justin Rose at the […]

Being more transparent….

AP’er commented on my last post that “It would be more interesting if you updated your blog at regular intervals rather than simply when you have a good week. Shame could be decent if you were more transparent”..The definition of which is “open, frank, candid”. Im not entirely sure what constitutes “regular intervals’ and having just become a father to not one but two, time consuming, puking, crying and  crapping little beauties its a little difficult to get the time to post on here whether the news is good or bad. However the comment did make me realise that some of my record keeping was a bit flaky (of the home made […]

Still Being Lucky?

My last post was a ramble about the importance of luck and it would appear that I’m still getting my fair share of it. I had previously mentioned  that  the Football Investor service had had a great start to the season (54 points profit), well make that 97 now as the wins have just kept coming. I keep getting this nagging feeling that I should just bail out now- stop placing any more bets  and bank the profit as I refuse to believe the season can get any better but then I thought that when I last posted! Hugh Taylor (At the Races) also continues to deliver the goods with […]

The importance of luck

Luck? Or is it timing? .Or ability? Or being organised? Or is it just a case of the well quoted saying “the harder I practice the luckier I get?” I say all this as, in my last post I mentioned that Hugh Taylor was having an absolute belting month. Well, the figures are out and (to advised stakes and advised odds) he made an incredible 45.90 points profit. The key point there though is the point about the stakes and prices.  I’m normally very good at getting the prices ( its just a question of being very organised at a certain time) but I had a nightmare on a couple […]

Chap Still the Man

Long time between posts again and most blogs normally wither and die as they start off in blaze of positivity and then the postings dry up when the profits stop coming in. I’m glad to say that this isn’t the case here (Honest!) but its just that being a (pretty much) full time stay at home Dad whilst juggling part time work, and making money from Betfair etc means that something has to give and unfortunately for my tens of avid readers its normally this blog. Its actually been a cracking few months for the different services I get involved in and a strong 2015 generally. Racing wise Hugh Taylor […]

Back Home!

Finally moved back into my house at the weekend after 5 months living with the in-laws while my house was effectively rebuilt. Whilst it was great to be able to move away from the dust and dirt it certainly feels good to be back home and as one of my friends rather wonderfully expressed it “every man needs to be able to sit in his pants on his own sofa and scratch his bollocks without his mother in law walking in” . Nice ! On a a more serious note its great to be able to get a proper office set up again which (IMO) is an absolute must if […]

Back on the Rollercoaster

Cant believe its been more than a month since the last post but unfortunately for my legions of avid listeners I’m still here! The lack of posting has been purely and simply down to a lack of time- after becoming a dad 10 months ago I’m now in charge of Junior some days with Mrs Blogger returning to work. Hats off to any single parents out there as looking after a young child ,who is just discovering the word is a 100% full time job. At the moment everything in the house apparently  to be tested to see whether its edible! A current  speciality is playing with my iphone (harmless […]

DANGER UXB!

Viewers of a certain age will remember a TV series called Danger UXB which if my memory serves me correctly was shown on ITV on Sunday evenings in the late seventies. I’m not quite sure how they managed to make a whole drama series about bombs not going off however looks like they will need to be called out of retirement. Whys that? Well on Saturday Coral ran a promotion called a “price bomb”. To lots of noise they announced that they would be “significantly enhancing” the price of a horse in the 3pm at Cheltenham. It was only ever going to be one and the price of “The New […]
