Backing the homes

Quick comment to make on always excellent Green All Over blog    and in particular one of the stats that was on that post. “Surely a much catchier lede would have been that backing all Homes in England’s top three leagues last season would have been up by:” “How far back you want to go looking for trends is up to the individual. Personally, I think two or three seasons is good,” Certainly thought provoking so I spent a bit of time doing exactly  that and found that while those figures were indeed correct ( and why would thye not be when they have been extracted from the brilliant http://www.football-data.co.uk/data.php  site) If you […]

True odds True Results

With the football season fast approaching (did it ever end?) I thought it might be interesting to post up some details on the results of the Racing and Football Outlooks True Odds service. For those unfamiliar- they work out the “true odds” (strangely enough given the title) of various football matches with the idea being that if you can then get better odds then that then this is the path to success. As (hopefully) everyone involved in betting knows then this beating of the “true odds” is the only way anyone is really going to succeed in the betting game. There are two issues here  1) The ability to get […]

Time flies

Wow. Time flies when you’ve got screaming kids! Its been over 6 months since the last blog piece and while bloggers normally stop posting because they either have nothing interesting left to say (that never ever stopped me) or its no fun posting about losing, the simple fact is that with three kids under three, time is so limited that every waking moment seems to be taken up. Betting wise its been actually ok. With the emphasis very much on the “ok” though. Golf wise, Jeremy Chapman in the RFO is level for the year although he would have been nicely ahead as he had tipped Justin Rose at the […]

A lot sappened

That’s (and another!) one straight away for the spelling police to get stuck into. Realised this morning that it was weeks since I had been able to motivate myself to get something onto the blog. I mean its not like there has been a lot going on in the world of sport and betting is it? First off there was Cheltenham and the furore caused by TGP offering silly deals to entice people and then completely shitting themselves when they realised that all the favourites had won and they owed a lot of money. Luckily common sense prevailed and they did a huge u turn and paid out but, you have […]

Being more transparent….

AP’er commented on my last post that “It would be more interesting if you updated your blog at regular intervals rather than simply when you have a good week. Shame could be decent if you were more transparent”..The definition of which is “open, frank, candid”. Im not entirely sure what constitutes “regular intervals’ and having just become a father to not one but two, time consuming, puking, crying and  crapping little beauties its a little difficult to get the time to post on here whether the news is good or bad. However the comment did make me realise that some of my record keeping was a bit flaky (of the home made […]

Still Being Lucky?

My last post was a ramble about the importance of luck and it would appear that I’m still getting my fair share of it. I had previously mentioned  that  the Football Investor service had had a great start to the season (54 points profit), well make that 97 now as the wins have just kept coming. I keep getting this nagging feeling that I should just bail out now- stop placing any more bets  and bank the profit as I refuse to believe the season can get any better but then I thought that when I last posted! Hugh Taylor (At the Races) also continues to deliver the goods with […]

The importance of luck

Luck? Or is it timing? .Or ability? Or being organised? Or is it just a case of the well quoted saying “the harder I practice the luckier I get?” I say all this as, in my last post I mentioned that Hugh Taylor was having an absolute belting month. Well, the figures are out and (to advised stakes and advised odds) he made an incredible 45.90 points profit. The key point there though is the point about the stakes and prices.  I’m normally very good at getting the prices ( its just a question of being very organised at a certain time) but I had a nightmare on a couple […]

Account Closer

Another lengthy interlude between posts and just not really had the time,or to be honest the enthusiasm to share my thoughts with my thousands of readers. Well perhaps that figure is slightly exaggerated. In my last post I made mention of the fact that I would be following Hugh Taylor again now that I had a bit more time to try and get on at the advised prices (he made a decent 1.8 profit in February although he did also have a 6/1 winner that by time I got to a pc on that day was something like 3/1 so I avoided it). This month has been ticking along nicely […]

Reed All About It! Palmer lands a 714/1 golf double

I wonder…. I wonder if that will possibly be somewhere on the front of the Racing Post Ipad edition when I download it tonight. I also wonder if should also carry on being critical of his tipping ability as it certainly didn’t do me any harm this week! I didn’t watch any of the golf this weekend as I’ve still not moved back home but it would have been fascinating to see some of the in running prices from Betfair on the final day. Andrew Sullivan started the last day 7 shots behind Charl Schwartzel going into the final day  and made up that difference to force a play off which he […]

Back on the Rollercoaster

Cant believe its been more than a month since the last post but unfortunately for my legions of avid listeners I’m still here! The lack of posting has been purely and simply down to a lack of time- after becoming a dad 10 months ago I’m now in charge of Junior some days with Mrs Blogger returning to work. Hats off to any single parents out there as looking after a young child ,who is just discovering the word is a 100% full time job. At the moment everything in the house apparently  to be tested to see whether its edible! A current  speciality is playing with my iphone (harmless […]
